Ten years later

A decade ago on June 14, leaders from North Korea and South Korea met for a summit for the first time since hostilities broke out on the peninsula 50 years earlier. At the time, the historic meeting was hailed as a breakthrough in the tense relationship between the north and south. A decade later, Koreans are left to wonder what happened as most of the agreements of 2000 have been dismissed and tensions are rapidly rising again.

Potter park

The second-largest theme park in Orlando gets a boost on June 18 when the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens to the general public at Universal's theme park. The Disney World rival says that patrons of Hogwarts Castle can purchase butter beer and pumpkin juice at the gift shop as well as check out a pair of new roller-coasters based on the best-selling children's series.

Blockbuster day

If history is any guide, the Pixar-produced revival of Toy Story should begin raking in cash for Disney when it debuts on June 18. The golden-egglaying franchise picks up where the previous two movies left off with Toy Story 3. In it, toy owner Andy heads off to college, and the toys he leaves behind are left to make sense of this new world.

A very long day

Soak it in, fathers. This year, Father's Day on June 20 lands one day before the first day of summer and the Summer Solstice, meaning dads can celebrate in the sunlight today longer than almost any other day of the year.

U.S. Open opens

When beleaguered golf champion Tiger Woods makes his way to the 110th U.S. Open at Pebble Beach on June 17, he'll compete without the advantage of golf coach Hank Haney. Without citing specific reasons, Haney resigned as Woods' swing coach last month, adding to the troubles of the embattled golfer. Under Haney's tutelage, Woods won 44 percent of his tournaments (compared to 24 percent prior to Haney).

Swedish nuptials

Count June 19 as one of the best days of Daniel Westling's life. The 36-year-old personal trainer and entrepreneur won't just be getting married-he'll be gaining a royal title, too. Westling, a commoner, will marry Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden at the Stockholm Cathedral. Henceforth, he will be known as Prince Daniel, Duke of Vastergatland. Two million people were expected to attend the national wedding festival on June 6.
