International Christian Retail Show 2011

Neptune's turn

Astronomers name Sept. 23, 1846, as the day stargazers officially knew that the blue-ish orb they were looking at through telescopes was indeed the eighth planet in our solar system. And now, nearly 165 years later, Neptune on July 12 completes a full orbit around the sun from the point at which it was observed in 1846-the distant gas giant's first orbit since discovery.

Special election

California's 36th Congressional District is supposed to be solidly Democratic. But that's not stopping Democrats from fretting about Democrat Janice Hahn's chances in a July 12 special election against Tea Party Republican businessman Craig Huey. According to Politico, Hahn may be clinging to a 5-point lead in internal Democratic polling of the Los Angeles County voters that comprise the 36th.

French campaign begins

Campaigning for France's presidential elections begins July 13 as members of the opposition Socialist Party have until that day to declare officially their candidacy for the nation's first-ever party primary. Many expected former International Monetary Fund director Dominique Strauss-Kahn to take the Socialist nomination easily, but his May sexual assault arrest in New York City left the race for the Socialist nomination wide open.

British Open

After winning his first major at the U.S. Open in June, young Northern Ireland golf phenom Rory McIlroy will return to action at the British Open in his native United Kingdom on July 14. Royal St. George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, will play host to this year's Open Championship for the first time since 2003.
