He can run, but he can't hide

Even though Kansas State quarterback Ell Roberson threw for 205 yards, ran for 145 more, and scored four touchdowns in the season opener against Cal, all eyes were off the field. The defending national champions, Ohio State, seem to have lost running back Maurice Clarett for six games because of an NCAA suspension. Last year, the freshman phenom piled up yardage for the Buckeyes and scored the winning touchdown against Miami to secure Ohio State's first national championship in nearly 35 years.

The investigation into the running back's life stemmed from an exaggerated police car-theft report. After the NCAA investigated, it found that Mr. Clarett had been driving a car borrowed from a dealership and that the star running back had been a part of academic violations, too.

Now the sophomore running back will have to miss the first half of the season, including conference games against Northwestern and Wisconsin. But he'll return in time for games against Iowa, Penn State, and Michigan.
