The original Harajuku Church was built in 1904 and had to be rebuilt after World War II, and again after it was discovered to be vulnerable to earthquakes. The congregation decided to try a strikingly modern structure that stands out from its commercial surroundings. It relies on a wide nave with six arches and a bell tower that symbolically lay importance on the seven days of creation and the seven churches in Asia addressed in the book of Revelation: “The church offers a time and a place for people to be with God in an open atmosphere,” said pastor Tsuchihashi.
