VETERANS: President Barack Obama this morning laid his final wreath at Arlington’s Tomb of the Unknowns, marking Veterans Day. Do thank a veteran today for his or her service to our country.
Alfred Marcus, 97, recalls how his faith sustained him during the Normandy invasion: “We were 118 days under fire straight.”
A veteran who served four tours in Iraq, Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., has a plan for peace there.
AFGHANISTAN: Overnight, a suicide bomber rammed his truck into the German Consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif, killing at least six civilians, wounding more than 120, and virtually destroying the building.
CANADA: The death of Canadian-born Leonard Cohen bookends a mad election season between two scribes of the era: the singer-songwriter and the voluminous Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Cohen’s latest album, “You Want It Darker,” came out just last month.
Speaking of Scalia, in this 2012 video clip, he explains why burning the flag, currently in progress during anti-Trump protests, is protected speech. He was the fifth and deciding vote in the historic 1989 Texas v. Johnson case upholding the right.
