Getting rid of rape evidence
Below is an ad produced by Gregg Cunningham's Center for Bio-Ethical Reform that will make lots of people angry, but there's truth to it: Rape is atrocious and leaves every non-perverse person disgusted, so many of us naturally try to get rid of the evidence. That means an evil doing away with the victim of rape in some cultures, and in others doing away with the human being created, in God's providence, through a terrible act. Yes, murdering a grown woman is more visible and thus more horrible to us than murdering a tiny unborn child, but how do you think it looks in God's eyes?
Can God turn to good the evil that men do, or do we still believe the old saw that a child conceived in rape is a "bad seed" who has no hope of redemption?
As I noted earlier this week, the uncovered aspect of this Akin-breakin'-heart debate is a dueling definition of compassion at work. Will abortion help a woman to "put the rape behind her," or is that a supposedly easy out when there is no ease? Pro-lifers have compassion toward the innocent baby conceived but also the woman who will only be hurt by adding one terrible tragedy to another.
