Forcing pro-lifers to promote abortion
California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law Friday that requires medically licensed pregnancy centers in the state to remind pregnant women and teenagers who visit their facilities that they can kill their babies at taxpayers’ expense. The law also requires unlicensed pregnancy centers to disclose the lack of a license.
I doubt pro-lifers take issue with the disclosure. The abortion-promoting part is a problem. The new law, a violation of freedom of speech and religion, mandates that abortion-opposing organizations must advocate for abortion, even if they believe it’s murder. Besides, what pregnant woman in the United States is not aware she can kill her baby and at the expense of taxpayers?
Abortion is repugnant to pro-lifers. Our society sells this legal yet immoral practice as the pinnacle of women’s rights. It’s all about choice. Choosing to be sexually irresponsible and discarding the inconvenient “products of conception” are apparently enlightened ideas. Because the baby can’t survive outside the womb, his life isn’t worth protecting. But the so-called constitutional right to kill the unborn is unlike any other. The death of a human being, especially one who needs the protection of his mother’s body, is not enlightened or casual.
Generally, women have an abundance of freedom and choice before they become pregnant. In the “extreme,” they can remain abstinent until marriage and faithful while married. If not, they have a variety of relatively cheap contraceptive options, including condoms, from which to choose. Killing their own babies is an immoral choice, and pro-lifers won’t stop opposing it.
Will the unconstitutional abortion-promotion law stand? A day after Gov. Brown signed the bill, the Pacific Justice Institute filed a lawsuit on behalf of California pregnancy centers on freedom of speech and religion grounds.
Just as Christian business owners face governmental penalties for refusing to violate their faith providing certain services to special-rights groups, organizations that aim to save unborn lives must remind women that they can take those lives. (March for Life recently won an exemption to providing insurance coverage for drugs that could induce abortions.)
Every day we hear more stories like this. Are you becoming desensitized? Don’t. That’s what pro-abortion advocates want. Christian pregnancy centers forced by their government to promote killing the unborn? Unthinkable. Be outraged, because sooner than you think we’ll start hearing about pedophile rights. Guaranteed. Prepare yourselves. Such are the consequences of sin. However, there is spiritual method to this earthly madness. God uses even our sin to grow His Kingdom.
“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly,” the Apostle Paul wrote [emphasis added]. “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”
