Texas mother of two Jane Neidenfeuhr recently received a "Nehemiah Award" from the Prestonwood Baptist Church for her persistence in fighting pornography. At a local library, she noticed two 10-year-old boys perusing pornography. A librarian responded to the Texas mom's concerns by citing a written policy stating the library was not responsible for what children access on the Internet. Rather than back down, Ms. Neidenfeuhr rallied 300 neighbors before the city council, which subsequently voted to install a filtering system. Deep in the East Texas pines, the 200-member Bennett Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is quietly carrying out the biblical charge to care for orphans. Following the example of their pastor-W.C. Martin and his wife Donna, who recently adopted two children-23 church families have adopted or found adoptive or foster homes for over 50 children. Now the church is building a tutoring center for the children, many of whom have suffered abuse. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) discovered a feisty foe this summer when it took on Topeka, Kan., resident Rita Cline. Despite a looming lawsuit, the 50-year-old county treasurer has refused to obey the ACLU's demands to remove "In God We Trust" posters from her Shawnee County office. As the standoff continued this summer, supportive county staff donned "In God We Trust" buttons.
