Homosexuals can't change, according to recent statements made by the American Psychiatric and Psychological Associations (WORLD, Aug. 26). Some doctors disagree. One of those is Warren Throckmorton, past president of the American Mental Health Counselors Association and currently director of college counseling and associate professor of psychology at Grove City College. At the annual American Psychological Association (APA) meeting last month, Dr. Throckmorton presented a review of nine "ex-gay studies" demonstrating that change in sexual orientation is possible. "The health professions largely ignore research demonstrating change from gay to straight," he said, but he expressed hope that the scheduling of the review "may demonstrate a shift in APA's willingness to explore all sides on this matter." Retired railroad engineer Arthur Willhite has discovered a new kind of transportation system. Since 1994 he and his wife, Mary, have transported nearly 8 million pounds of donated food-valued at approximately $7 million-to local church food pantries and senior citizen centers in Columbus, Ohio. Dedicating 60 hours a week to the effort, the couple used their own money to purchase an old delivery truck. They created a makeshift food warehouse out of seven trailers.
