Don't become desensitized to it all

A federal judge struck down the section of Utah’s anti-bigamy law that bars a married person from living with another in a marriage-like relationship. On Monday, however, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals restored the cohabitation ban. The judge ruled that the lower court shouldn’t have considered the Sister Wives case in the first place. Criminal charges were not filed against the TLC reality program’s star Kody Brown and his “wives.”

Some might argue that the law against polygamy goes far enough, and that the government shouldn’t bar married consenting adults from shacking up with other people. In any case, it’s only a matter of time before the courts rule polygamy, incest, and even pedophilia as rights under the U.S. Constitution. Be prepared to see such cases go before the U.S. Supreme Court. Brown and his women already cited the court’s same-sex marriage ruling last year to support polygamy. If the high court can redefine marriage to include two people of the same sex, why not include three or four or five of either sex?

Expect to read about more “genetic attraction” stories as the social stigma weakens. If a man can marry a man, why can’t he wed three? Why can’t he marry his mother? Isn’t that discrimination? We know how God defines marriage:

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”

They were naked and not ashamed. Paradise before the Fall. Then came conflict and strife, perversion and disorder, decay and death.

Are we becoming desensitized to it all? Does it no longer shock us to hear liberals call us “bigots” because we advocate common-sense policies that acknowledge biological differences? Are we not appalled when performers and businesses boycott a state where lawmakers refuse to cave to the ridiculous idea that grown men have a right to enter intimate areas where women and girls expect privacy, yet they don’t boycott countries where homosexuality is illegal? Why do some people have the freedom of conscience not to serve, but those Christian “bigots” must serve or face government fines?

Christians are the low-hanging fruit of the unrepentant who don’t want to be reminded of their sin—and the approaching Day of Judgment. We are witnessing God giving them up to uncleanness, lust, dishonor, and vile passions. And in a country growing more hostile toward Christians, we’re expected to embrace these ways of living or lose our livelihoods and our First Amendment freedoms.

Even so, we can’t let ourselves become desensitized. We must remain alert and aware. Our time here is short. As the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, don’t receive the grace of God in vain. It is His time to save, and we’re His messengers:

“Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
