D.C. police chief's ironic advice

Liberalism is an ideology full of irony. An abortion mill tweets about a child deserving an opportunity to live up to his God-given potential. Leftists call for a “color-blind” society while worshiping at the altar of diversity and hunting for “racism” everywhere. “Strong, independent” feminists living in a free and abundant society blame men for their own bad choices. A certain lobby demands that we tolerate their lifestyle as they intolerantly infringe on our religious freedom. And the police chief of a liberal city that doesn’t want law-abiding people to carry handguns encourages those same people to take out a gunman in an active-shooter scenario.

Last Sunday, Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Chief Cathy L. Lanier appeared on CBS’s 60 Minutes, where she advised D.C. residents on what to do if someone near them starts shooting people:

“Your options are run, hide, or fight. If you’re in a position to try and take the gunman down, to take the gunman out, it’s the best option for saving lives before police can get there. That’s kind of counterintuitive to what cops always tell people, right? We always tell people, ‘Don’t … don’t take action. Call 911. Don’t intervene in the robbery.’ … We’ve never told people, ‘Take action.’ It’s a different … scenario.”

We live in Islamic-terrorism times, and people must be prepared to defend themselves. But Lanier is encouraging an unarmed populace to risk their lives trying to stop armed thugs. Beginning in 1976, the nation’s capital banned people from owning handguns, even in their own homes, unless they registered the guns before 1976. The U.S. Supreme Court declared the handgun ban unconstitutional in 2008. Since then, the city has set up hurdles. In September, a court struck down certain restrictions, including requiring people to bring their guns to the MPD for registration and pass a test about the city’s gun laws. Gun owners who want to carry in a city with a rising homicide rate must show “good reason.” Although this restriction was struck down, the issue is pending.

A free nation’s capital city is a target-rich environment for an anti-liberty, anti-Christian people on a mission to murder and maim as many people as possible. (Terrorists know that the average person in D.C. likely isn’t carrying a gun.) It should follow that the government would want law-abiding citizens to be as prepared as possible. As you watch the make-believe scenario, count the number of times an armed person could have taken out the shooter.

Liberals who push for gun control don’t really believe gun crimes would end. It’s about beating the other side. Politics. They’ve created “constitutional” rights to kill unborn babies and for men to “marry” each other, but they seek to weaken a right that’s actually in the Constitution. Resist these efforts. Your life might depend on it.
