Cracking like a coconut

Coconuts were on sale at the supermarket so my daughter bought one and brought it to my house along with my excited granddaughter. While I was busy with other things, the child went to the computer to Google "How to crack open a coconut."

Later, while we were at the pool, she told me that her search had yielded some strange findings. She somehow stumbled onto instructions on cracking cell phone codes and making crack cocaine.

This reminded me to better supervise my granddaughter's computer time. This is because Satan has planted trap doors everywhere. I know of more than one man whose descent into years of sexual sin began with the accidental discovery of pornography in a trashcan, found when he and his boyhood friends were innocently exploring the byways and alleys and parking lots of their neighborhoods.

Satan will twist every invention and cultural development to his advantage. He is the great counterfeiter. He is the one who prowls like a lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He is the one who crouches at the door ready to pounce when you disobey and thereby create an entry point for him (Genesis 4:6-7). He is wounded but not yet finished off, and so is all the more full of fury (Revelation 12:12) and nothing to mess around with.

After our foray to the pool we checked the internet again and learned the secret of cracking a coconut: You take an ice pick and hammer and tap, tap, tap at each of the three dark spots clustered on the coconut's surface until you find one that is soft and penetrable. It's no secret to Satan where our vulnerable spots are. We need to take his tap, tap, tapping seriously and put on the "whole armor of God" to keep us from cracking like a coconut.
