Common sense and decency get another day in court

The Virginia Supreme Court will hear the Fairfax County Public Schools’ transgender case

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isaiah 5:20-21)

No Christian should be surprised by the increasingly perverse state of the world. God said it would be so, and it will get worse. We’re not as bad as we could be. One way He restrains evil is through our laws, which believers and unbelievers are bound to obey. But our laws don’t save.

The school board in Fairfax County, Va., decided to go along with the transgender pretense and refer to boys masquerading as girls with feminine pronouns and allow them to use restrooms and other private facilities designated for girls. The same goes for girls pretending to be boys. Those who care about children’s modesty, privacy, and safety sued the school board. Liberty Counsel, which represents the plaintiffs, claims that the school board’s adding “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “gender expression” to its policy and the student handbook was illegal based on state law that bars local non-discrimination laws from being tougher than the state’s.

A state circuit court contended that the plaintiffs hadn’t filed their claim within 30 days of the school board’s actions and dismissed the case. Liberty Counsel, which represents the plaintiffs, argued that the 30-day provision didn’t apply in this case. The plaintiffs appealed the lower court’s decision, and the Virginia Supreme Court, which apparently agreed with that reasoning, will hear arguments in the case.

Mat Staver, who founded Liberty Counsel, called what the school board did lawless and harmful to children: “This is a matter of statewide and national concern. … The fact that the Virginia Supreme Court decided to take up this case should be a warning to other local Virginia school boards and government bodies to back away from following the path of Fairfax County.”

If the government refuses to protect children in their charge, parents must act.

Although this isn’t exactly a win, those who want to protect children get another day in court. If the government refuses to protect children in their charge, parents must act. In addition to petitioning the government for redress, they can remove their children from harm. As I’ve mentioned before in my WORLD columns, I’d love to see a Christian exodus from the public schools. The government seems committed to helping the LGBT lobby carry out its agenda to indoctrinate your children.

No matter how strong the pressure from a fallen world, reject perversity as normal or good, and bear witness to God’s saving grace and boundless mercy. The world isn’t on Christ’s side, and it isn’t on ours. The body of Christ must resist this abominable call to disregard biology, common sense, decency, and human nature for the sake of any group’s agenda. We do this not only for ourselves, but also for the generations to come. We do this for the presently perishing who, through witnessing our efforts, might know Christ.
