Champay Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cambodia got its start in October 2005 in a bamboo and palm leaf structure (inset). Last year a team from a church in Virginia came to help Pastor Samuel Lamanilao and his congregation build the new facility. Team members labored for a week in temperatures reaching 115 degrees, laying the foundation with Champay villagers completing the rest. In addition to worship services, the new church is used for feeding programs for village children (see "Stronger than death," Dec. 13, 2008), while the old structure continues to be used for English language classes.
