South Korea plans electronic voting in all elections by 2005. The Korea Herald reported that the plan would begin to phase in next year as part of a cost-cutting "e-government" measure.... Hitachi and Maxell are developing a new-generation CD that can hold a full terabyte of data. A single platter, expected to be the same size as today's disk, would hold the same as 200 regular DVDs or 1,400 CD-ROMs.... Columbia University researcher Milan Strojanovic claims animal DNA can power a new generation of supercomputers. He and a colleague say they invented a simple, biology-based computer that can play tic-tac-toe. NASA recruited him to help develop new biomechanical sensors for the space program.... More than 2,000 hours of Supreme Court arguments are available from the Oyez Project (oyez.org), an archive sponsored by Northwestern University. Everything from 1995 to the present is included, plus earlier historic cases such as Roe vs. Wade, Miranda vs. Arizona, and New York Times vs. Sullivan. The archivists are busy converting their library into MP3s.... Phone-number portability may become reality by November, now that legal challenges seem out of the way. New federal rules require phone companies to release numbers to customers who defect to other service providers. The rules are expected to boost the move away from landlines and toward wireless service; already, 7.5 million Americans have gone wireless-only.
