Abortion advocates for Christ?
How can Hillary Clinton and other professing ‘pro-choice’ believers condone such killings?
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
News outlets, including WORLD, have reported recently on the Christian beliefs of Hillary Clinton. The Atlantic portrayed Clinton’s “pro-choice” advocacy for snuffing out unborn life as ambivalent, thanks to her Methodist upbringing. According to American Magazine, a Roman Catholic publication, the Democratic Party nominee for president “is said to read snippets of Scripture each day.”
In her reading, I wonder if Clinton comes across such passages as Genesis 1:26-27, where God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. … So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Does she ever land on Jeremiah 1:5, where the Creator told the prophet He knew him before he was formed in the womb? The psalmist said that the Lord formed his “inward parts” and covered him in his mother’s womb, “for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” This wonderful verse reminds us that before we existed, God saw our substance and fashioned our days.
One cannot deny the unborn child’s wonderfully made parts or his humanity, and no one’s “choice” trumps these facts. But it’s imperative for the abortion industry to dehumanize the baby. The overwhelming majority of abortions in the country are performed because a baby’s existence is inconvenient.
One cannot deny the unborn child’s wonderfully made parts or his humanity, and no one’s “choice” trumps these facts.
How can a professing follower of Christ condone something that robs an unborn child—created in God’s image and imbued with a soul—of his miraculous, God-given existence and demand that others, including pro-lifers, pay for it? It takes some mental gymnastics to reconcile these opposing facts. Ultimately, this is a matter between “pro-choice” Christians and the God they profess to worship.
We believers who oppose abortion still have a mission. We must continue to remind the world that unborn babies are human beings who have the right to live, regardless of how inconvenient or unwanted they are. The Creator sees the substance and fashions the days of those who’ve yet to exist.
God hates the shedding of innocent blood. Promoting abortion is one of this country’s great shames, and there will be an accounting. But abortion is a forgivable sin—for the person who does the killing and for the woman who doesn’t want her precious baby. Christ died for some of the people who were, presently are, and will be involved in this terrible act.
