WORLD NEWS GROUP TIMELINE

1981

The Presbyterian Journal takes on a new series of current events papers for children in the style of Weekly Reader. Under the guidance of Joel Belz, this new children’s publication, God’s WORLD News, doubles the circulation and volume of the parent magazine. The corporate name changes to God’s World Publications, Inc.

1986

1986 The Presbyterian Journal enters into a period of decline. Joel leads the launch of WORLD, a weekly magazine providing adults with news from a Christian perspective. Also, God’s World Book Club begins. It offers a screened selection of children’s literature and non-fiction resources for Christian school classrooms and homeschools.

1994

Marvin Olasky is appointed editor, then editor in chief, with Joel as publisher and Nick Eicher as managing editor, then editor.

1999

World Journalism Institute (WJI) begins.

2004

WORLD sells the book club, which was facing competition from Amazon and others.

2006

WORLD begins a daily blog, laying the foundation for an online presence, and starts presenting Hope Awards for Effective Compassion.

2008

WORLD Digital becomes an official arm of WORLD journalism and Kevin Martin becomes CEO

2011

Nick Eicher leads the launch of a weekly program on the radio called The World and Everything in It

2012

WORLD becomes WORLD News Group, a name that encompasses print magazines, digital content, and podcasts.

2014

God’s WORLD News branches into three magazines and interactive websites based on age range: God’s Big World, WORLDkids, WORLDteen.

2020

WORLD Watch, a video current events program designed for teens in both classroom and home settings, launches amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021

WORLD Opinions is introduced with over 40 respected Christian voices posting columns on timely topics each weekday on WORLD’s website.

2022

Lynn Vincent is appointed as the executive editor of WORLD magazine.

2023

God's WORLD News introduces The News Coach Podcast to aid in the discipleship of kids and teens. Also, The World From A to Z with Carl Azuz begins streaming every school day in both public and private institutions around the globe.
