Zelenskyy to visit Washington as Congress considers Ukraine aid
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan on Friday said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will arrive in the U.S. capital this week. He is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden on Thursday, as well as attend talks with congressional leaders on Capitol Hill.
Why is Zelenskyy visiting Washington? As Congress works to approve a budget for next year, some members oppose continuing support for Ukraine in its war against Russia. Sullivan expressed optimism that Congress will still likely include aid to Ukraine in whatever spending bill it passes.
