West Virginia bans gender transition treatments for minors
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice signed a bill Wednesday banning gender transition surgeries and hormone treatments for those under 18. The law allows minors to get the treatments if their parents consent and if two doctors diagnose the child with gender dysphoria. The doctors must also provide written testimony that the child is at risk of suicide or self-harm if they don’t receive treatment.
How many other states are doing this? Roughly 10 other states have banned or restricted gender transition procedures. Kentucky’s Republican-led legislature on Wednesday overrode Gov. Andy Beshear’s veto of a bill banning gender transition treatments for minors.
