Woman shoots up ceiling at Dallas airport
Portia Odufuwa, 37, fired several shots at the ceiling in Dallas’s Love Field airport Monday before a nearby officer shot and wounded her. No one other than Odufuwa sustained injuries, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said Tuesday. The Federal Aviation Administration cleared flights to resume mid-afternoon after only a few hours of a police investigation. Still, dozens of flights scheduled to arrive or depart before 6 p.m. that night were canceled, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital.
Why shoot at the ceiling? Police said Odufuwa’s motive is being investigated, but before firing the shots she rambled about a marriage, incarceration, and said she would blow up the airport. She has been arrested several times in recent years and found incompetent for trial on more than one occasion, Garcia said. Last year, she received outpatient mental health services after pulling the fire alarm at a hotel, and in 2019 she was arrested in arson and bank robbery cases that were dismissed after she underwent treatment, the Dallas Morning News reported.
