Wisconsin state assembly passes pro-life bill for referendum
The Wisconsin State Assembly approved a measure on Thursday protecting unborn babies from abortion after 14 weeks of gestation. The measure would amend current Wisconsin law that only protects babies after 20 weeks in the womb. The current law and the new legislation include exceptions in cases of rape or incest. The proposal passed in a 53-46 vote and now moves to the state’s Republican-led Senate for discussion.
When will citizens vote on the measure? The bill needs approval from both houses of the state legislature and a signature from Gov. Tony Evers before citizens can vote the measure into law. Evers vowed to veto the measure during a speech on Tuesday.
