Vehicle attacks injure five in Canada

Canadian police are investigating a pair of terror attacks that happened in Edmonton, Alberta, on Saturday night. The first happened when a man driving a Chevrolet Malibu hit a police constable working outside a sporting event. The driver then jumped out of his vehicle and viciously attacked the officer with a knife. Doctors treated and released the officer from the hospital without any critical injuries. A few hours later, authorities at a traffic checkpoint stopped the driver of a U-Haul truck whose name resembled that of the owner of the Malibu. As the driver led police on a chase, the truck struck four pedestrians, two of whom remain hospitalized. The suspect is a Somali national who was making a refugee claim in Canada. Police said they were familiar with the 30-year-old suspect, whose name was not disclosed, and had investigated him before for extremist ideology. An Islamic State flag was found in his vehicle.
