UPS employee kills three coworkers in San Francisco
UPDATE: The UPS employee who shot and killed three co-workers Wednesday in San Francisco had filed a grievance for excessive overtime. Joseph Cilla, an official with a Teamsters Union local that represents UPS workers, said 38-year-old Jimmy Lam filed the grievance in March. Lam complained of too much overtime and requested UPS relieve him from working extra hours. Assistant Police Chief Toney Chaplin said security officials have yet to confirm the motive for the shooting. Lam walked in during a morning meeting and shot three people: 50-year-old Benson Louie, 56-year-old Wayne Chan, and 46-year-old Mike Lefiti.
OUR EARLIER REPORT (3:15 p.m., 6/14/17): A UPS employee in San Francisco killed three co-workers and wounded two others Wednesday morning before turning the gun on himself. Police have not released the shooter’s identity or offered any details on a possible motive. The shooting started early in the morning before drivers headed out to deliver packages. The sprawling facility sits less than 3 miles from downtown. Witnesses reported hearing at least five gunshots before uniformed UPS workers began running from the facility. Police stormed the building, and the attacker reportedly shot himself only after officers approached him.
