United Airlines dubbed itself the world’s largest airline on Tuesday while adding international flights out of the United States within the next year. The airline planned to offer direct flights to 10 international cities, with three new routes across Europe and Asia.
United said it could begin its flights as early as March 2027. After the expansion, the airline would serve more destinations in Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France than any other U.S. airline, according to a company statement.
Where will the flights be taking off from? Nearly all of United’s new direct flights to Europe will take off from Newark Liberty International Airport in eastern New Jersey for destinations in Italy, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Slovenia. The only other new direct flight to Europe will take off from Washington Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia to Toulouse in southern France. United also planned to launch a nonstop flight out of San Francisco to Okinawa in southern Japan.
The airline also planned to restart flights from San Francisco to Israel’s urban hub of Tel Aviv. United had indefinitely suspended various Middle Eastern routes due to the regional instability after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
