UNC shooter held without bond

A judge in North Carolina on Tuesday ordered 34-year-old Tailei Qi to remain in jail until his trial. His next court date is scheduled for the middle of next month. Qi faces charges of first-degree murder in the killing of his faculty adviser near a science building in the middle of campus.

What led to the shooting? Authorities have not commented on a motive for the attack. They identified the victim as Zijie Yan. The attack caused a lockdown on campus on Monday, and students were instructed to shelter in place at about 1 p.m. Hours later, the campus sent students an all-clear message. UNC canceled classes through Wednesday.
