Ukrainian forces destroy Russian supply bridge

The Ukrainian military used a U.S.-supplied HIMARS rocket system late Tuesday to strike the nearly milelong Antonivskyi bridge across the Dnieper River in Kherson. Last week, Ukrainian artillery barrages had damaged the bridge so that trucks couldn’t cross, but passenger vehicles still could. Tuesday’s strike halted all traffic on the bridge, which has been the main crossing across the Dnieper River in the Kherson region. One other crossing, at a dam in Kakhovka, remains open despite Ukrainian shelling last week.

What else is happening in Ukraine? Russian forces in Donetsk have continued to utilize artillery shelling on towns and villages as a part of what Ukrainian regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko called “scorched-earth tactics.” In the region and elsewhere, Russian artillery and missile strikes have killed dozens of civilians in apartment buildings, hotels, and malls over recent days and weeks. Foreign military aid has assisted Ukrainian forces in fighting back, but officials in Kyiv continue to request more weapons.
