Ukraine seeks fighter jets from Western allies

Ukraine’s latest request for weaponry comes one week after several nations pledged to send heavy tanks to Kyiv. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov met with French officials on Tuesday after President Emmanuel Macron said that France wasn’t opposed to sending fighter jets. President Joe Biden on Monday ruled out sending F-16 jets to Ukraine, and the United Kingdom has also declined the request.

What other supplies has Ukraine received? The United States and European countries last week agreed to send more than 60 heavy battle tanks to Ukraine. In December, the United States committed to send the Patriot missile system to Kyiv, and the U.S.-built systems are now headed there along with machinery from Germany and the Netherlands. More than $100 billion in military, financial, and humanitarian aid has been pledged to Ukraine since Russia invaded last February.
