Ukraine regains ground in Kharkiv
Counterattacks by Kyiv have forced Moscow to withdraw its troops from parts of the Kharkiv region to keep from being surrounded. In their hasty retreat, Russian forces left large numbers of weapons and munitions behind. Russia struck back at Ukraine’s infrastructure Sunday night, triggering widespread blackouts.
How is the nuclear plant in Ukraine? Workers were able to reconnect the Zaporizhzhia plant to the electricity grid, allowing engineers to shut down its last operational reactor. They hope to avoid a radiation disaster as fighting rages in the area. The six-reactor plant lost its outside source of electricity a week ago after shelling damaged or disconnected all of its power lines. Operators said shutting down the last reactor was the safest course of action.
