Defense secretary says $2.3 billion more in aid headed to Ukraine
U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Tuesday previewed the upcoming aid deliveries in a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, according to the Pentagon. The package includes air defenses and other critical munitions, the department said. The Biden administration has not yet announced further details on the aid package. Last month, President Joe Biden agreed to a decade-long bilateral security commitment with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
What is the rest of Europe doing to support Ukraine? NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg last week said that he expects NATO to establish a plan for more consistently providing aid to Ukraine at the alliance’s next meeting in Washington, D.C. That meeting is supposed to take place next week. The U.S. Department of Defense said NATO would also begin providing more training for Ukrainian troops.
