Ukraine claims destruction of Russian landing ship

Ukraine’s intelligence agency on Wednesday said its forces sunk Russia’s Caesar Kunikov landing ship in the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea. Video footage released by Ukraine appears to show a naval drone striking the boat by night. The Russian military did not immediately comment on the strike. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to discuss the reports during a press call on Wednesday. The ship was named after Caesar Kunikov, a Russian naval officer during World War II. The Russian military has been using landing ships to transport military supplies during the war in Ukraine.

What else is happening in the war? Russia on Tuesday night launched missile attacks on the town of Selydove in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. The strikes killed three people and injured at least a dozen others, according to local officials. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday called on U.S. House representatives to approve billions of dollars in aid funding for Ukraine.
