Ukraine arrests woman linked to alleged assassination plot
SBU, the Ukrainian state security service, on Monday said they arrested a woman on Aug. 1 in connection to an alleged assassination plot against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The woman allegedly gathered intelligence on Zelenskyy’s trip to Mykolaiv last month and also was tasked with locating military ammunition storage and electronic warfare systems. SBU said the accused informant was caught “red-handed” while “trying to pass intelligence to the invaders.”
Have there been other plots or attempts on Zelenskyy’s life? Zelenskyy’s adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said earlier this year that the president had survived over a dozen attempts on his life since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year. TIME reported that Russian soldiers parachuted into Kyiv specifically to kill Zelenskyy and his family the day after the beginning of the Russian invasion. Last month, Zelenskyy told CNN that he knows Russian authorities see his death as a top priority, but he has bigger things to think about.
