U.S. adds to North Korea sanctions as Olympics close

The Trump administration on Friday levied new sanctions against North Korea, a reminder that the United States still considers the rogue nation a threat despite its inclusion in the Winter Olympics. The sanctions affect more than 50 vessels, shipping companies, and trade businesses that could help North Korea generate revenue for nuclear and ballistic missile development. President Donald Trump called this round of U.S. sanctions the largest to date. Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and adviser, arrived in South Korea on Friday to attend the Olympics closing ceremony this weekend. She told South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a meeting that the United States reaffirmed “our commitment to our maximum pressure campaign to ensure that the Korean Peninsula is denuclearized.”
