U.K. sees first mass shooting in a decade

Police identified 22-year-old Jake Davison as the suspected shooter who killed his mother in their home in Plymouth, England, on Thursday evening and then ran outside, shooting people on the street as he passed. Davison shot and killed four others, including a 3-year-old and her father, and wounded four bystanders in the United Kingdom’s worst mass shooting since 2010. The victims died either at the scene or at the hospital. Davison killed himself before police arrived.

What was the motive? Authorities have not determined a motive but said there are no indications the shooting was an act of terrorism or that Davison had ties to extremist groups. Home Secretary Priti Patel said she is investigating Davison’s gun license. Police described the incident as a violent domestic disturbance that overflowed to innocent bystanders. They are not looking for any other suspects connected to the shooting.
