Two tourists among seven dead in Egyptian attacks

Two attacks in Egypt left at least seven people dead Friday, including two female tourists. In the first incident, gunmen on a motorcycle attacked a security vehicle patrolling near some of Egypt's oldest pyramids, in Giza. Five police officers died. They were part of a force guarding one of Greater Cairo’s most popular tourist sites. In another attack, sure to further depress Egypt’s already flagging tourism trade, a man with a knife stabbed six visitors at a Red Sea resort. Security officials say the man swam up to the hotel from a nearby beach. Two German women died at the scene, while first responders rushed three tourists from Serbia and one from Poland to a nearby hospital for treatment. Initial reports indicated security forces arrested the attacker, but he has not been identified. No group has claimed responsibility for either attack.
