Two killed, five injured in shooting at Virginia high school graduation

A gunman on Tuesday shot seven people outside the Altria Theater in Richmond following a high school graduation ceremony. The shooter killed Renzo Smith, 36, and his son Shawn Jackson, 18, who had just graduated. First responders treated at least a dozen people for anxiety and injuries sustained when the crowd chaotically scattered. Police arrested a 19-year-old suspect and planned to charge him with two counts of second-degree murder, said Richmond Interim Police Chief Rick Edwards.

How has the school district responded? Richmond Public Schools said all district campuses would be closed Wednesday, and other graduation ceremonies planned for this week were canceled. Superintendent Jason Kamras said the graduates were outside taking photos with their families and friends when the shooting began.
