Turkey vows revenge for wedding attack

Turkey vowed to “cleanse” its border with Syria of Islamic State (ISIS) militants after a suicide bomber believed to be under the group’s influence killed 54 people at a Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep on Saturday. Adding to the horror, officials on Sunday said they believed the bomber was between 12 and 14 years old. Many of the victims—at least 22—were younger than 14. Although ISIS has not claimed responsibility for the attack, the profile fits the extremist group’s typical strategy of targeting civilians. Kurdish separatists also orchestrate bombing attacks in the country but usually target police, military, or government facilities. Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said ISIS began launching attacks in Turkey after it ramped up efforts to prevent fighters from crossing its border into Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also has accused ISIS of not representing Islam.
