Trump order cuts federal support for trans procedures for those under 19
President Donald Trump issued another executive order on Tuesday to protect people under the age of 19 from undergoing chemical or surgical transgender procedures, including puberty blockers, sex change surgeries, or hormones conflicting with a child's biological sex. The order ordered several executive offices to take steps to reduce transgender procedures from being performed on minors, including:
The U.S. budget office was instructed to pull federal funding from medical organizations and hospitals that support or perform transgender surgeries on minors.
The Department of Health and Human Services will review and revise the protocol when treating children with gender dysphoria or sex-identity issues.
Federal insurance programs, including TRICARE, will no longer cover transgender procedures on minors.
The Department of Justice will prioritize enacting and enforcing laws against female genital mutilation.
Executive leaders and lawmakers will provide parents and children with a pathway to sue medical professionals who performed damaging transgender procedures.
Federal prosecutors are ordered to investigate and take action against so-called sanctuary states protecting children who want transgender surgeries without parental consent or knowledge.
