Trump officials settle Biden-era censorship lawsuit

The State Department agreed to settle a 2023 lawsuit accusing the Biden administration of censoring speech it deemed disfavorable, according to a Friday statement from the Department of Justice. Media groups, including the Daily Wire and The Federalist, accused Biden officials of funding technologies that social media companies could use to suppress and demonetize protected speech online.

This settlement corrects the historic wrongs against Americans and ends the Biden administration's censoring of disfavored speech, according to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. The settlement also enacted President Donald Trump’s executive order to end federal censorship online, the DOJ said. That executive order accused the Biden administration of using misinformation and disinformation as a guise for trampling First Amendment rights.

Has the Daily Wire commented on the settlement? The conservative news outlet released a statement on the settlement about a week before U.S. District Judge Jeremy Kernodle approved the mutual agreement on Wednesday. This settlement is a win for free speech and ensured an end to government-supported censorship on media outlets, according to the news group’s statement.
