Truck bomb kills 20 in Mogadishu

A truck bomb in Mogadishu, Somalia, killed 20 people and injured 15 others Saturday in one of the biggest blasts in years. The bomb, hidden in a truck, destroyed the Safari Hotel, which sits on a busy street near the country’s foreign ministry. At least some victims remained trapped in the rubble. Security forces began following the truck after it raised suspicions but couldn’t divert it before it exploded. No one claimed responsibility for the attack but al-Shabaab is active in the area and has targeted high-profile sites in Mogadishu before. Recent attacks have targeted Somali army bases. Previous attacks have targeted hotels and restaurants frequented by foreigners and Somali leaders.
