Treasury Secretary Yellen visits Beijing
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Thursday arrived in Beijing for meetings with senior Chinese officials. The meetings were set to include a discussion on Friday with Premier Li Qiang, the second-ranking member of the Chinese Communist Party. Yellen is scheduled to be in China until Sunday.
Why is she in China? Some Republicans have taken issue with her visit. Representative Roger Williams, R-Texas, said that Yellen should be focusing on the U.S. economy and not on relations with China. The visit is meant to ease economic and trade tensions between the two world powers, according to Yellen’s office.
