Top G7 leaders call for “humanitarian pauses” in Gaza Strip
Leading industrial democratic nations on Wednesday released a unified statement on the Israel-Hamas war. Top diplomats from the Group of Seven countries held two days of meetings in Tokyo to discuss the severity of the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel and to call for aid for Palestinian civilians. The G7 statement condemned Hamas and supported Israel’s right to self-defense. It called for corridors for relief efforts with pauses in the fighting to deliver aid and secure the release of hostages.
What is the long-term plan for Gaza? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said that Israel may assume security responsibilities in Gaza for the foreseeable future after the war. Meanwhile, United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday noted that Hamas or Israel could not control the area. The G7 has maintained that a two-state solution is necessary to secure peace.
