Thousands leave northern Gaza amid Israeli war on Hamas

An estimated 200,000 people have traveled south in the last 10 days through a humanitarian corridor established by the Israeli military, according to the United Nations. Israeli forces have focused their ground assault on Gaza City. Israeli leaders have promised to crush the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for the Oct. 7 attack that killed more than 1,200 people in Israel. More than 11,000 people have died in Gaza since the start of the war, said the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry.

Why is a hospital central to the fighting? The largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, the Al-Shifa Hospital, is no longer functioning, said the World Health Organization. Israeli forces have surrounded the hospital and claim that Hamas is operating in and under hospitals throughout the region. Hamas has denied those claims.
