The United States and Britain launch second joint strike against Houthi rebels

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday claimed responsibility for ordering Royal Air Force attacks the previous night against the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The joint U.S.-Britain mission targeted several military locations in Yemen. It comes more than a week after the first joint U.S.-British strike against the Houthis. The United States has targeted the rebels with more than a half-dozen missions on its own.

Are the attacks achieving their objective? The Houthi rebels have not stopped attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis say their attacks have been carried out to support Palestinians suffering from Israel’s war against the terrorist group Hamas in Gaza. They also say their attacks have only targeted ships linked to Israel, but that claim was disputed by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command earlier this month when officials cited more than a dozen attacks targeting vessels they said had no connection to Israel.
