Texas mass shooting leaves one victim dead, 10 injured
A mass shooting in west Texas on Friday left at least one victim dead and 10 others wounded, leading to a brief standoff with local police. Mayor Lori Blong referred to the suspected shooter as a male, but gave no additional details on his identity or possible motive. Police used robot and drone footage to confirm that the shooter is now deceased, Blong later said in a separate update.
Police heard gunshots from inside a building near the 4600 block of West Wall St. in Midland, Texas, while responding to a reported shooting on Friday morning, according to Midland Police Chief Greg Snow. Police received the shooting call just after 8 a.m. local time, prompting SWAT and multiple agencies to arrive on scene, Blong said. FBI Director Kash Patel also reported that federal agents had been deployed to the scene to aid local investigators. Blong asked the public to pray for all the victims and the families who have been impacted.
What is known about victims? Midland Memorial Hospital received nine victims from the shooting and initially reported that the conditions of five of the victims had stabilized while four were undergoing surgery. The hospital later reported that five patients had been discharged, three were out of surgery, and one remained in the operating room, according to a later statement.
