Texas college student charged in officer’s death

A 19-year-old student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a police officer Monday evening. According to a Texas Tech University statement, campus police found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia in the student’s room and took him to the police station. The suspect, Hollis Daniels, is accused of pulling a gun—it’s unclear if it was his own or an officer’s—and shooting the officer before fleeing on foot. Police apprehended him later in a parking lot near the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
