Terrorist suicide attack kills 23 Pakistani officers

A group of terrorists on Tuesday rammed a truck loaded with explosives into a security compound in northwest Pakistan. A suicide bomber detonated the truck, and six militants engaged in a shootout with security forces, according to the Pakistani military. The attack killed at least 23 Pakistani officers and wounded more than 30. A terrorist group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Is terrorist activity common in the region? The security office is located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan and is a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban. Pakistani security forces have increased operations in the area as they work with local police to monitor militant groups, a local hotel owner told The Associated Press. Military forces killed 27 insurgents Monday night during a series of operations, according to military officials.
