Tennessee residents repairing and rebuilding after weekend tornadoes

Residents of central Tennessee on Monday continued recovery efforts after a collection of tornadoes destroyed and damaged structures across the state. The storms killed six people and put dozens more in the hospital. Officials in Montgomery County, 50 miles northwest of Nashville, reported that a tornado killed three people, including a child, on Saturday afternoon. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department identified the three others who died as a result of the storm. Twenty-one people were injured in Nashville, with 13 being treated at hospitals, city officials said. Many buildings have been damaged, with one mobile home landing on another and an entire church collapsing.

How is Tennessee recovering? Officials have said power companies are working to restore power to thousands who are without electricity. PowerOutage.US on Monday morning said more than 18,000 people were still without power in the state. It could be up to two weeks before power is restored to everyone, according to Joe Pitts, the mayor of Clarksville in Montgomery County. Meanwhile, residents have been cleaning up their property since Sunday.
