Taliban kills nearly 100 in Kabul bombing
Taliban militants claimed responsibility Saturday for a massive truck bombing in Kabul that killed 95 people and injured 158 others. The suicide bomber used an ambulance to get through a security checkpoint in the Afghan capital, telling police he had a passenger that needed to get to a nearby hospital. When he reached the second checkpoint, he detonated the explosives hidden in the ambulance. Officials said the victims include civilians as well as military personnel. Saturday’s bombing near the European Union and Indian consulates, came one week after Taliban fighters attacked the Intercontinental Hotel, killing 22 in an hours-long standoff. On Wednesday, Islamic State militants attacked the offices of Save the Children in eastern Afghanistan, killing four of the NGO’s workers.
