Taliban attacks break out across Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior on Tuesday said Afghan forces have ended a deadly Taliban attack on a police compound that killed at least 14 people and injured more than 130 others. The Taliban claimed responsibility for two other attacks in the country’s western and southern provinces Tuesday. The Interior Ministry said the extremists set off two suicide car bombs at a compound in Gardez, the capital of the eastern Paktia province. Security forces killed five attackers wearing suicide belts who tried to storm the premises, according to the Interior Ministry. At least 14 people died from the attack, including provincial police Chief Toryalai Abdyani, and the death toll is expected to rise. In a similar attack earlier Tuesday, police Chief Maruf Fulad said the Taliban attacked a government compound in the western Farah province. And in the country’s southern Ghazni province, insurgents killed at least 15 people when they attacked a security compound. Provincial spokesman Arif Noori said that assault lasted nine hours and left about 44 people injured.
