Taliban attack killed four Americans, injured two others

Four U.S. citizens died and two others sustained injuries during the Taliban’s attack last weekend on the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan, the U.S. State Department said Wednesday. Spokeswoman Heather Nauert confirmed in a statement the deaths and injuries and offered condolences to the victims’ families. The Afghan Taliban launched a 13-hour siege on the hotel Saturday night that killed 22 people, including 14 foreigners. On Tuesday, the State Department confirmed the victims included Americans but did not release any further details. Florida-based Selig Multimedia confirmed in a statement that CEO Glenn Selig was among the casualties. The public relations company said the former Tampa broadcast reporter was covering a story about Afghanistan’s new president. “Glenn was a tireless professional, loyal friend, and pillar of the community, but most importantly he was a loving husband and wonderful father,” the statement added.
